Past Champions 2016 - Zach Steffen 2017 - Ross Miller
The North Star Tour Championship at The Jewel Golf Club (Lake City, MN) September 13-14th, 2017
2017 Update: Ross Miller wins the North Star Tour Championship Match Play at The Jewel Golf Club! The final match was a great showdown by two of the tour's best players this year. Charlie Boyechko (Winnipeg, Manitoba) played in just two events on our tournament schedule and finished in 2nd place in both. Ross Miller had played in every event over the summer and has been consistently within striking distance of a victory. In the end, Miller emerged as the victor for his first North Star Tour win. The championship match lasted 19th holes and neither player allowed the other to be more than "1 up" in the entire match. The lone playoff hole was the 1st hole at The Jewel Golf Club. A 585 yard par 5 with several penalizing bunkers. With the adrenaline running high, both Boyechko and Miller were able to hit the green in 2 lengthy golf shots. Miller was able to 2 putt from a distance for his birdie while Boyechko was not. The 3 putt ultimately left Miller the championship. Both players played stellar golf throughout the tournament. Both beating out 2017 NS Tour champions, Jake Wherley (Cabin Classic) and Brent Snyder (North Star Open). The Jewel Golf Club is a challenging and scenic Hale Irwin design in Lake City, MN that is a must visit for all golfers. We can't wait to return for another event. Tournament Summary: The 2017 Tour Championship will be played at The Jewel Golf club in Lake City, MN. The Jewel's name speaks for itself as this course really is a "jewel" of Minnesota golf. The treelined/links style combination with backdrops of South East Minnesotas rolling hillsides is a scenic place to hold a golf tournament. But don't let the beauty distract you from the beast of the course. If the wind picks up at The Jewel it will take good ball striking to keep your ball below the hole. Last year Zach Steffen (Former ISU Cyclone) upset a number of higher seeded players in route to a 1-up vicotry over Kyle Scanlon (Former USD Coyote) in the final round. Last years Tour Championship was also the deciding factor in the tours first Player of the Year race. Which was won by multiple 2016 event champion, Hudson Carpenter (eliminated in the quarter final matches)
